About JVSA

JVSA Owner and President Javier Velasco has been coaching and managing youth, high school, college and semi professional teams in New Jersey for the last 26 years. He is an Educator at Franklin public schools and is the Head Coach of the Men's Soccer program at Middlesex College. Previous to Franklin he was the Head Coach at Rahway HS (Girls), North Brunswick HS (Girls), Arthur L. Johnson HS (Girls), Edison HS (Boys), Manville HS (Boys) and was an assistant coach at Kinnelon HS (Boys). Coach Javier has placed many players in college and on professional teams.


Velasco was a Full-time Assistant Men’s Coach at NJIT, where he helped NJIT transition from a bottom 200 Division II program in the nation into a competitive Division I programHe has extensive club experience, he was the Sporting Technical Director, USL 2 and USL Academy Head Coach at Morris Elite Soccer Club. He also coached at Cedar Stars Academy Newark and Monmouth, New Jersey Soccer Academy 04 (NJSA04), Players Development Academy (PDA), and the Jersey Knights Soccer Club.



Velasco worked as an evaluator for Region 1 ODP in 2005, where he evaluated, coached and trained soccer players for the regional and national teams.

Velasco obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Kean University in 2000, majoring in management science/international business with a minor in Spanish. He also holds a NJ State Teacher Certificate and is CPR/First Aid certified.

Velasco holds a USSF National B Coaching License and a Director of Coaching Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches (previously NSCAA). Javier is also a member of the United Soccer Coaches.

As a player, Velasco was a member of Centenary (NJ) College's 1995 National Small College Athletic Association national championship team and was named Most Valuable Player of the title game. Earlier, he played at Mercer County College, which reached its national championship game when he was there in 1995. Velasco was a three-time all-state selection at North Brunswick HS before going on to a splendid collegiate career. After playing his last college season at Kean University in 1996, he enjoyed a seven year professional career in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) with the North Jersey Imperials, Central Jersey Riptide and New Jersey Stallions. He made multiple Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup appearances against Major League Soccer (MLS) teams.





As a youth, he won a U16 national title in 1989 in Ecuador, representing the State of Manabi.

He spent two years playing club soccer with the Union Lancers in NJ in the early 90s, where he won a U17 state title in 1992 and was an U18 state finalist the following year.

He resides in Metuchen, NJ, and was born in Ecuador.
